WhatsApp, the super popular messaging app across various platforms, posted on their FAQ section that they are ending support for a number of older operating systems. This is not just for Android devices, but Apple devices too!

As per the WhatsApp post, they will stop supporting the following operating systems post February 1, 2020:

Android versions 2.3.7 and older
iOS 8 and older

This means that users won't be able to create new accounts or reverify existing WhatsApp accounts on a number of old phones. However, they would still be able to continue using WhatsApp on these devices.

According to a tweet posted by WABetainfo, the following list of devices will be affected:


WhatsApp also posted that users will no longer be able to use all Windows Phone operating systems after December 31, 2019, and WhatsApp might not be available in the Microsoft Store after July 1, 2019. The latest/updated FAQ WhatsApp also asks feature users to switch to phones running KaiOS 2.5.1+, including JioPhone and JioPhone 2.

Moreover, even though users will be able to continue using WhatsApp on the above devices, since WhatsApp is no longer actively developing for these operating systems, some features might stop functioning at any time.

So, if you are still using any of these devices, please backup your WhatsApp chat history for your Android, iPhone, or Windows Phone.
